The Russian community in West Michigan welcomed the Julian calendar new year by passing on their heritage to the next generation.
On Sunday 26th November 2017 the Dean of the Central States the Mitered Archpriest Roman Star made his annual visitation on the parish patron feast day. Along with parish clergy, Father Roman was joined by Michigan Central States Deanery clergy: the Rector of St. Andrew East Lansing, Priest Christopher Rozdilski, and Priest Daneil Shirak cleric of St. Innocent of Irkutsk Redford MI. Father Roman celebrated the Vigil on Saturday evening and Divine Liturgy Sunday morning. The parish made procession with the cross and holy icons prior to enjoying a festal banquet which showcased the musical talents of the adults and children of the parish under the direction of Choir Director Catherine Beukema.
Father James and several parishioners once again accepted the warm invitation to attend the Ded Moroz festivities in Grand Rapids. The Russian community in West Michigan is alive and well and teaching their children their cultural traditions and language. The children were very talented and had angelic voices.
